City Experience

Along with other major Melbourne venues and education providers, Urban Camp has been involved with ‘City Experience’ meetings coordinated by State Library of Victoria staff.  The objective of the meetings is for venues to liaise and share happenings, in addition to establishing ways for teachers to add meaning and structure to student city visits.  The last meeting was held at Urban Camp and was a great opportunity for venue booking staff and managers that had not been to camp before to gain a greater sense of Urban Camp operations and put a picture to the place where many of their visiting students are staying during their Melbourne adventure.

To introduce teachers to a range of activities, compliment their chosen activities and better link education programs the State Library of Victoria is a offering a three day teacher professional development workshop. Below are details on the ‘City Experience’ component where Urban Camp programming staff will be participating on a panel discussion.

Learning in the present: the Melbourne city experience

Friday 12th October, 2012

9.30am – 3.00pm

Come to the State Library of Victoria for your chance to meet representatives from cultural institutions across Melbourne as we discuss the ‘City Experience’.

This free day will give teachers and coordinators the opportunity to hear tips and tricks for planning city excursions, and discuss with their peers the elements of a successful program. The day will conclude with an outcursion at the institution of your choice, to further extend your experience of what Melbourne has to offer for students.

Suitable for both primary and secondary teachers, this event will be of particular interest to those involved in coordinating city experiences. For more information visit slv.vic.gov.au/slvlearn, or email education@slv.vic.gov.au. Although this is a free event, bookings are essential. Refreshments provided.
