Carbon Footprint

As part of our commitment to sustainability, we are pleased to announce the installation of 12 solar PV panels at camp.  Since being installed on 17th December, 1129 kWh of electricity has been generated.  A public display unit showing the instantaneous power generated, energy generated on the day and energy generated since installation has been set up in the main corridor area.  Groups will be able to see first hand how such renewable technologies assist the environment and how their own carbon footprint at Urban Camp has been reduced.

Our annual staff Christmas party is always an event we look forward to. A big thank you to Karen for organizing and to George for cooking up a delicious Christmas fare.  The evening embraced a Las Vegas theme with the king of rock, Elvis making an appearance at camp!

We would like to welcome Geraldine back from long service leave and also extend a big thank you to Michelle for all of her expertise and assistance with school programs provided during this time.  Geraldine enjoyed exploring Western Australia as well as some time overseas in Canada.  Emlyn is enjoying extended leave and is currently teaching English in Columbia.  We look forward to hear all about his adventures later this year!

Groups at Camp

Urban Camp facilities are utilized in varying ways.  It is fascinating and exciting to see the camp transformed to match group programs.  During the term three schools holidays, Interchange Central Gippsland arranged circus team building workshops through the community arts organization, Westside Circus.  The dining hall space was perfect for this and it provided a wonderful opportunity for the group.  For more information about Westside Circus go to http://www.westsidecircus.org.au/.  The Arts Centre is another of our venue partners that can offer workshops such as performing arts at camp.  http://www.theartscentre.com.au/discover/education/outreach--access/primary.aspx

Earlier this month a division of OfficeMax arranged a staff training and retreat at Urban Camp.  Meeting Rooms were transformed into a corporate style meeting and presentation facility.  The group also managed to survive one of Melbourne’s warmer days where the thermometer tapped 43 degrees Celsius.

The latter part of January will see the camp transformed into an energetic arena with dance groups and cheer leader groups hosting annual camps.

The Urban Camp Co-operative is made up of a diverse array of groups and it is great to see facilities utilized in many different ways as the examples above relay.  If your group is after a venue keep us in mind!
