Chinese Museum

Located in the CBD, students can learn about the amazing inventions from Ancient China, hear about dragons and their important role in Chinese New Year festivities, or step back in time to bear witness to the journeys and stories of the first Chinese Australians. More interactive programs include a virtual Kung Fu lesson with an experienced instructor, and Chinese Lantern Making with specially printed red paper.

All programs are led by trained guides and facilitated via Webex.

 
 

Guided Programs

 

Chinese Lantern Making

Cost: $8.80 per student (minimum 30 students, maximum 50 students)

Curriculum: Intercultural Capability and History 

Grade: All

Outline: Students will make their own red paper lantern and learn about the significance and history of lantern making in China. A fun worksheet will be provided for students to consolidate their adventure. Focus areas: Intercultural Capability and Multiculturalism.

Amazing Inventions from Ancient China

Outline: Students learn about Emperor Qin and his Terracotta Army, inventions that emerged during the Han Dynasty and the importance of the Silk Road. This program features video of the Chinese Museum collection and includes a drawing activity. A fun worksheet is provided for students to consolidate their adventure. Focus area: Ancient Chinese history.

Wing Chun Kung Fu Class

Cost: $9.90 per student (minimum 30 students, maximum 50 students)

Curriculum: Intercultural Capability and Physical Education

Grade: All

Outline: Students will learn about the origins of Wing Chun Kung Fu, its health benefits, as well as learn and practice a few movements. The program is facilitated by a Sifu master via Webex. A fun worksheet is provided for students to consolidate their adventure. Focus areas: Health and physical education, Chinese health and well-being practices.

Dragons and Celebrations

Outline: Students will learn about the Chinese dragon, its role in the Chinese New Year parade and other important symbols in Chinese culture. The Promise of Gold

Outline: Students explore the reasons Chinese people first migrated to Australia, and some of the contributions they have made to this multicultural country that we live in. The program features video of the Chinese Museum collection and includes drawing and writing activities. A fun worksheet provided for students to consolidate their adventure. Focus areas: Early Australian history - Gold Rush of the 1850s and, Immigration and Multiculturalism.
