Farewell to our CEO
The Board of Urban Camp Melbourne announces the departure of our respected CEO, Daniel Whykes.
Daniel embraced every aspect of his role over his seven years with Urban Camp; propelling the camp into the modern facility it is today, enjoyed by over 10,000 students a year.
Under Daniel’s direction, the camp’s popularity has grown without losing sight of our purpose to enable young people to thrive through urban experiences.
Ongoing improvements across the facility ensure schools and community groups stay in safe and accessible accommodation which is bright and welcoming. Together these elements have created great memories for students on school camp.
During Daniel’s time at Urban Camp:
venue partnerships expanded to more than 50 venues across Melbourne as well as exclusive experiences including afterhours visits to the Melbourne Zoo;
occupancy increased by over 15% nearing close to capacity ensuring more young people from around the state have the opportunity to experience a raft of new and educational experiences in Melbourne;
strategic direction of the camp was strengthened with a specific focus on developing a strong governance model, risk management framework and business continuity planning to future proof the organisation.
significant rebranding and website refresh was undertaken to ensure the camp is reflected as a modern, youth focused organisation in all aspects of its operations.
major advances in customer service included the introduction of cloud-based systems, user-friendly teacher’s portal and a robust customer service feedback and reporting cycle all which have strengthened daily operations.
Recently Daniel facilitated a three year financial partnership with Bendigo Bank, Community Bank Seddon, ensuring young people otherwise unable to afford school camps are provided an invaluable opportunity for independence and growth.
Daniel’s achievements with his dedicated team have been recognised by the sector, with Urban Camp receiving gold medal recognition at the 2022 Victorian and Australian Tourism Awards.
The Board is moving forward to recruit a CEO to lead Urban Camp into the next chapter.
